Civic Notes is an experimental project maintained by SENPAI. We are building and refining this collection as we learn. Coverage is limited to the laws listed on the site.

Two voices on every page

The Act's own words are set in a book serif, like this. Our explanation is set in the plain typeface you are reading now. In the section text, a green note beside a section means we have explained it, and the note links to that explanation.

What we cover

Acts of the National Assembly. We start with the ones that change what people and businesses can do or must do. Bills still in progress are not covered yet.

The rules every page follows

1. Every claim cites a section. If we cannot point to the section a claim comes from, we do not make it.
2. We identify the source edition. We transcribe sections from the official source linked on each page, such as a Gazette or a National Assembly copy. Schedules, margin notes and running heads are omitted from the on-site transcription. The linked PDF includes material not displayed here; the transcription may not incorporate later amendments.
3. A named person checks it. An explainer only goes public after someone has read it against the Act. Their name and the date are on the page, and any later edit sends it back for another check.
4. We say when a law has moved on. Amendments and new regulations change how an Act works. We mark an Act as amended or repealed when that happens.
